Border updates

What changed at the border.

Every day our desk checks the official US and Canadian sources for notices about trade between Canada and the United States, and lists the last two weeks here, each with a link to the official notice.

This fall: BC and Washington are an hour apart

On Sunday, November 1, 2026, Washington turns its clocks back an hour, but British Columbia no longer does. Until Washington moves its clocks forward on Sunday, March 14, 2027, BC is one hour ahead: 7:30 AM in Surrey is 6:30 AM in Blaine. Dock appointments, border booth hours and detention bills all depend on which clock is meant.

Official notices, last two weeks

Titles and summaries come from the official notices, and the notice itself is what counts. Your customs broker confirms how any change applies to your goods. Official sources: US Federal Register, CBP CSMS bulletins, CBSA Customs Notices, Canada Gazette and Finance Canada.
